How It Began

A studio built on restraint.

Interra Design was established in Bengaluru in 2018, born from a frustration with interiors that performed rather than lived. Too many spaces were designed to photograph well and feel hollow in person.

We set out to do the opposite.

Every project since has begun with the same question: what does this space need to become? Not what trend it should follow. Not what style it should borrow. What it needs — given its light, its scale, its inhabitants, and its context.

Seven years and twelve residences later, that question has not changed.

What We Stand For

Four things we will not compromise on.

01 — Space is a participant, not a backdrop.

An interior does not frame life — it shapes it. The way a corridor narrows, the way light enters a room at 4pm, the weight of a door handle — these are not small decisions. They are the design.

02 — Every material carries memory.

We choose materials not only for how they look on day one, but for how they age. Patina is not a flaw. It is evidence of a life well-lived within a space.

03 — Restraint is a decision, not an absence.

Knowing what to leave out is as important as knowing what to include. Empty space is not wasted space. It is space allowed to breathe.

04 — When it is complete, it belongs to you — not us.

Our work ends when your life begins within it. We do not design for our portfolio. We design for the person walking through the door at the end of a long day.

Interra Design operates as a close-knit studio — designers, material researchers, and on-site collaborators who share a single point of view. We do not scale our process. We protect it.

Each project is led by a principal designer from concept to handover. No handoffs. No dilution. The person who begins your project is the person who completes it.
